NEPA Course - Additional Information
The course has four major sections:
- The first section illustrates, with two real-world examples,
what can happen when environmental considerations are ignored. One of these
is the environmental legacy left by the former Soviet Union.
- The second section covers the creation, purpose, and
policies of NEPA and the Pollution Prevention Act, and their relationship
to other Federal, State, and local laws and regulations. Pollution prevention
strategies and approaches are explored.
- The third section illustrates in detail the actual implementation
of NEPA including the different levels of the process, what is involved
in complying with NEPA, how to conduct an environmental analysis, types
of mitigation measures, and how to prepare NEPA documents.
- The fourth section deals with the responsibilities of
different Air Force offices for integrating environmental planning in the
systems acquisition process and for complying with NEPA.
The photographs, music, sound effects, and video footage
used in the course were obtained from public and private stock libraries.
Stock video and its associated sound track were extensively edited and recombined
to create essentially new content and convey the intended messages. A total
of fifteen short movies were created for the course. Over one hundred full-screen
still photographs were used.
